In an effort to build awareness of Lyme disease in Pennsylvania and promote better treatment alternatives, the House Human Services Committee held a hearing this week on legislation that would create a statewide task force to deal with this widespread tick-borne disease. Rep. Dick Hess (R-Bedford, Fulton, Huntingdon) prime sponsor of House Bill 272, said his legislation would increase education efforts and help ensure that patients who have contracted lyme disease receive health insurance coverage. The House Commerce Committee held a roundtable discussion on the credit and banking crisis and the recent Congressional rejection of bailout legislation Wednesday in Harrisburg. Rep. Dick Hess said experts from state agencies discussed what effects the credit crisis may have on state government, but that ordinary citizens will not face any direct financial damages.
